Reviews!

To any authors/publishers/ tour companies that are looking for the reviews that I signed up for please know this is very hard to do. I will be stopping reviews temporarily. My husband passed away February 1st and my new normal is a bit scary right now and I am unable to concentrate on a book to do justice to the book and authors. I will still do spotlight posts if you wish it is just the reviews at this time. I apologize for this, but it isn't fair to you if I signed up to do a review and haven't been able to because I can't concentrate on any books. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. I appreciate all of you. Kathleen Kelly April 2nd 2024

Inked Hearts by Lindsay Detwiler Pre-Order Blitz!

Inked Hearts

by Lindsay Detwiler
Publication Date: October 21, 2017
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

“Six years, a complex about my freckles, a love for pastrami, and a fear of failure. That’s what he gave me before slaughtering my heart and my faith in men.” Suffering from the sting of betrayal, twenty-eight-year-old Avery Johannas quits her job and moves hundreds of miles away to Ocean City, the beach town of her dreams. With the help of her zany roommate, Jodie, Avery finds a new career, home, and freedom. Throughout her self-exploration, she makes only one rule: She won’t give her heart to a man again. She’s living for herself this time. But then she meets Jesse. A tattoo shop owner, the green-eyed Jesse Pearce is wild with a touch of mystery. As Jesse and Avery explore Ocean City and their friendship, they’ll have a hard time drawing a line in the sand between their hearts. When summer nights get a little more heated than either expected, they’ll have to ask themselves: Can they let go of their notions of love, or will their hearts be permanently inked by past pain?

About Lindsay Detwiler

An English teacher, an author, and a fan of anything pink and/or glittery, Lindsay’s the English teacher cliché; she loves cats, reading, Shakespeare, and Poe. She currently lives in her hometown with her husband, Chad (her junior high sweetheart); their cats, Arya, Amelia, Alice, Marjorie, and Bob; and their Mastiff, Henry. Lindsay’s goal with her writing is to show the power of love and the beauty of life while also instilling a true sense of realism in her work. Some reviewers have noted that her books are not the “typical romance.” With her novels coming from a place of honesty, Lindsay examines the difficult questions, looks at the tough emotions, and paints the pictures that are sometimes difficult to look at. She wants her fiction to resonate with readers as realistic, poetic, and powerful. Lindsay wants women readers to be able to say, “I see myself in that novel.” She wants to speak to the modern woman’s experience while also bringing a twist of something new and exciting. Her aim is for readers to say, “That could happen,” or “I feel like the characters are real.” That’s how she knows she’s done her job. Lindsay’s hope is that by becoming a published author, she can inspire some of her students and other aspiring writers to pursue their own passions. She wants them to see that any dream can be attained and publishing a novel isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

A transplanted Scot, Margery now lives on a lake in Canada.

Although she grew up as far away from the old west as possible, she’s always had a love affair with the men and women who settled the untamed land west of the Mississippi. Glued to TV westerns like Maverick, Rawhide and Gunsmoke, and reading stories of Annie Oakley, Roy Rogers and Rin Tin Tin, it was only natural that when she started writing, she wrote what she loved to watch and read. When she’s not writing or travelling in search of the perfect setting for her next novel, you can usually find her wielding a pair of knitting needles or a pool cue.

Emmeline: Bride of Arkansas by Carra Copelin

While learning to cope with her new life, she discovers she isn’t content to live the life of a spoiled society woman. Can she let go of her newfound independence when the right man comes along?
Lincoln Bass returns to Flat Rock Point, Arkansas a year after the accident that almost cost his life. His former employer has asked him for help at the lumber mill. He is apprehensive, but feels he owes the man who saved his life. Then he crosses paths with the most delectable, yet bewildering female he’s ever encountered.

In His Thoughts by Peggy L. Henderson

Assigned to a position in the newly formed Yellowstone National Park, life seems like it couldn't get any better for Ben Ferguson. But patrolling for poachers is fraught with danger, and he soon finds his future looking bleak. Images of a blue-eyed guardian angel are the only thing he has to pull him from the edge of death.

Crazy. Worthless. Demon-possessed. Clara Youngblood has been labeled many things by people who cannot understand the challenges she must confront every day within her own mind. When all seems dark, a glimmer of hope appears in the form of a retired soldier.

Ben and Clara wouldn't have chosen the circumstances that brought them together, but they soon discover their importance in rescuing each other.

The High Stakes Bride by Margery Scott

Chloe Taggart has one goal—to leave Rocky Ridge as soon as possible and see the world. She has no intention of ever being under a man’s thumb, and she has no desire to spend her life cooking and cleaning when she could be sailing the Pacific or touring ancient Greek ruins.

Even though Austin Hayward is content with his life on his ranch, it would be perfect if he had a wife to share it with. Unfortunately, there is only one woman he’s interested in marrying—Chloe Taggart. Chloe and Austin have known each other for years, but she’s never looked at him as anything more than a friend.

When Chloe’s father loses his diner to Austin in a poker game, Austin makes her a proposition—her father will get his diner back, and Austin will get Chloe."

The High Stakes Bride by Margery Scott

Snippet:

Hopefully, one day he’d be able to kiss her the way he dreamed of and she’d respond the same way. For now, he’d have to be gentle and patient.
He spoke quietly, hoping his voice was soft enough that the pastor wouldn’t be able to hear him. “It’s not fatal, or if it is, I’m doing it wrong.”

He smiled at her. She nodded a moment before he lowered his head to hers. He grazed her lips softly, barely touching them, but it was enough to make him almost groan with the intensity of his desire for her.

He forced himself to pull away before he scared her. As it was, when he met her gaze, she was looking at him with a dazed expression on her face, as if she’d never seen him before. It was disconcerting, to say the least.

Q&A With the Author:

1.     When did you start writing, and was there a specific event or person who influenced you to become an author?
I started writing when I was about 12/13. I had become a reader in 7th grade, and I was reading Sidney Sheldon. His style was easy for me to read. My English teacher had me submit a writing sample to the county because they requested one since I'd scored so high on the first one, and that gave me my first writing joy. After that I was hooked. I took Mr. Sheldon's short and choppy method of writing and began to write my own stories with my friends. Soon it became an obsession.
2.     Are you currently working on a project, and if so, can you tell us anything about it?
I am actually working on 4 projects. My 7th Walker book should be out by the time of this event :) I'm working on a I'm working on a Romance with Paranormal Elements (I might have just made that up.) Tentatively titled The Tea Shop, it should release in late November. I've set the story where I live near Golden, Colorado, and the woman has premonitions which she tries to hide from people because it does start to make her sound crazy...or guilty.
3.     What is your favorite writing snack?
I don't know that I snack as much as I drink. And I only drink water and coffee when I write.
4.     If you could have dinner with any of your characters, which ones would you choose? Why? What food would you serve?
I would have dinner with Carlos and Madeline (from a Second Chance.) They are family people, and I think we would have a lot to talk about with growing kids. I suppose we would barbeque on the grill. Maybe I'd have steak, which I love.
5.     Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
I learn something from every book I write. With Chasing Shadows I learned how to put a lot of observation into a book. It's a Romantic Suspense, so there need to be hidden details in everything, so that when it all pulls together, the reader can say, "Oh, I remember that."
6.     How do you relax, or what do you enjoy doing when you are not writing?
Writing is relaxing to me, so this is always so hard to answer. I'm learning to close up shop at a reasonable time and sit on the couch and veg with my family. (Can you believe I have to actually think about it and plan it?)
7.     What is your largest unfulfilled dream, and what are you doing to reach it?
NYT's bestseller. I'm a dream chaser, so I've fulfilled so many of my dreams...but that one so far. I keep writing good books and hope that someday, one of them will get on that chart. Then I'll find a new dream.
8.     What do you fear most?
Losing one of my kids. Just thinking about it makes me cry. But it is my biggest fear and it forces me to make sure that the last words they hear from me before they leave me each day is how much I love them.

9.     What advice would you give someone who wants to write a book some day?
Get to writing! That book won't write itself. Don't stop once you start. Spit that story out and write until your done without editing. As authors we ruin more good stories by editing while we write.

A Decade of Visions by Cameron Ramses Book Tour and Giveaway!

A Decade of Visions
by Cameron Ramses
Genre: Historical LGBT Romance
Born to a single mother in Dust Bowl-era Nebraska, Roy Manger learns to deny his true self from an early age. The rural Midwest is no place for a boy who wears girls’ clothes for fun—let alone for one who suffers gruesome hallucinations. It is only when he leaves home that he can embrace his true identity, spending his days as Roy and his nights as Raina, working as an escort in a ritzy Chicago bordello. But after a run-in with the law, Roy is torn between extremes: to live as a man or as a woman; to ignore his grief or struggle to accept it; to suppress his visions or seek to understand them. With the support of Woodrow, a convict with a murky past, Roy will have to come to terms with the fact that, in life, all of the greatest joys must come from within—and the greatest dangers, too.

A Decade of Visions contains adult content suitable for mature readers only. There are also instances of graphic gore and period typical homophobia.

Goodreads * Amazon * Nine Star Press

Roy had been staring at the corner for nearly an hour. He was waiting for someone to come by and post bail. But Hattie’s motto was always this: if you got yourself into a mess, it was your job to get yourself out. Who bailed out who was always a matter of exchange.
If Roy couldn’t take his medicine, then he would have to stay awake all night until the dead man was driven away by the sun. If he looked away for even a moment, those dead fingers would clutch around his neck, and the dirt-caked face would bend forward to chew the flesh off his cheeks. So he stared.
Though frozen, Roy’s body worked on. His bladder filled with the wine from dinner, and his stomach grew bored with the shrimp salad and demanded something more. Two hours earlier, as the police had approached the door of the Pineapple, he knew he had two choices. The first was to change into some boy clothes, and the second was to eat a quick plate of cornbread. The former won out over the latter by a narrow margin.
The drunkard vomited into the bucket between his knees.
As if the sound had ended the homeless man’s bout of blindness, that hoary head whipped its chin down to reveal his eyes: one staring milky and unfocused from beyond the grave, while the other gaped, a bloody hole where a bullet had entered, done its gruesome business, and left. The socket streamed with blood, red rivulets thick with curded pus and vitreous humor. The teeth were black and yellow and the saliva dripped over the lips and gathered on his shirt-front. Roy let in a slow gasp and tried to regulate his heart and continued to stare at the corner. And the homeless cyclops, the victim of some wanton violence, stared back.
Roy began to cry.
The cyclops’s hands, thick with cold and toil, twitched. Slowly his limb grew strong, lifting up from the elbow until, when the forearm was parallel to the floor, the hand itself raised, straightening the arrow of his index finger until it pointed straight at Roy in judgment.
He could not quiet his sobs. His chest heaved, a haywire machine.
Hungry, the cyclops stretched until it pointed with the whole arm. The tip of the finger seemed to reach halfway across the room.
The drunkard retched again while Roy was moaning. Weeping. It had never been this bad before. It had never gotten so close. When he had seen this same apparition at the steakhouse, it had kept its back to him. If he had known it would return, he would have sacrificed his eyes to any sharp object within reach—the fork for the shrimp, the tweezers in his bathroom, Mr. Deer’s fingers. Roy’s sight blurred, causing the image of the cyclops to balloon to twice its natural size. He screamed.
“You shut the f*ck up.” Without thinking, Roy snapped his head to the left, where the head of the blanket-bundle was sticking out now, bringing to mind a dirty turtle. Catching his mistake, Roy immediately looked back at the corner and was surprised to see nothing. As his heart slowed down and his muscles relaxed, he flipped his head between the dreaded opposite corner and the corner to his left where, after a moment, he was able to distinguish the features of a young Black man staring at him.
After a moment of eye contact, the head turned back to the wall and Roy said, “Thank you.”
The muffled bundle muttered, “Thank you…”
Roy sat back, relief washing over him like bathwater.

“…for shutting the f*ck up.”
